10 Seacliff Ave - Historic Resource Evaluation
Project type
Evaluation
Date
2022
Location
San Francisco, California
Groundwork Preservation LLC was hired by the property owners to evaluate the residential property at 10 Seacliff Avenue in San Francisco’s Sea Cliff neighborhood. The property is located within the eligible Sea Cliff Historic District and Groundwork was asked to evaluate the property for individual eligibility for listing on the California Register of Historic Resources (CRHR) and as a contributing property to the Sea Cliff Historic District.
The HRE evaluated the potential historical and architectural significance of the property. Groundwork conducted original research at the City and County of San Francisco’s local government offices, the San Francisco Public Library’s historical photograph collections, the Bancroft Library, University of California collections through Calisphere, Open SF History’s historical image collection, previously completed HRE and HRERs for neighboring properties in Sea Cliff, Sanborn fire insurance maps San Francisco City Directories, Newspapers.com, and Ancestry.com. Research topics included San Francisco city development, specifically the Sea Cliff neighborhood’s development.
Groundwork determined 10 Seacliff Avenue was not individually ineligible for listing on the CRHR, but was eligible as a contributing building to the Sea Cliff neighborhood. Groundwork ultimately found that the revised proposed project complied with CEQA regulations and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Properties.
