Paramount Ranch Fire Patrol Station - Historic Structure Report
Project type
Documentation, Evaluation
Date
2023
Location
Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, California
Client
MIG and Siegel & Strain Architects
Gretchen Boyce of Groundwork Preservation LLC was contracted by MIG, Inc. on behalf of the National Park Service (NPS) to co-write a Historic Structure Report (HSR) on the Fire Patrol Station at the historic Paramount Ranch in Ventura County, California. MIG partnered with Siegel & Strain Architects to prepare the HSR. Groundwork was tasked with developing the historic context, building chronology, architectural description, and identifying the character-defining features of the Fire Patrol Station, which served as a fire station in the Santa Monica Mountains from 1928-1980. Research topics included the development of the Paramount Movie Ranch and its historic and cultural impact on the movie industry, and the transformation of the residential building into the fire patrol station, and later converted to NPS park housing. Groundwork’s research and findings were incorporated into a larger Historic Structure Report that will inform how the NPS rehabilitates and reuses the structure in future park operations.
