Placer County Cultural Mapping Study

The Arts Council of Placer County (ACPC) contracted with Groundwork Planning & Preservation through Forecast Public Art to prepare a county-wide cultural mapping study to identify racially and economically underserved communities in which art could exponentially improve quality of life in Placer County. The study identified existing cultural assets and creative resources that the ACPC and other arts organizations could build upon and further support.

The results of this study will guide the ACPC in awarding future grant funding, and facilitate connecting art resources and programs, with communities that will benefit from art programs. Phase 1 gathered information through a county-wide survey (365 responses), 1:1 interviews, and focus groups. Key themes were identified to guide the recommendations in Phase 2, which focused on creating strategies to take action and make strides to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion. Recommendations were developed to guide staff and offer options for arts organizations to best enhance equity, workforce development, and youth engagement.
